"El punto como protagonista". Alan Lacke
"The line is a moving point," says Cuban artist Alan Lacke . This statement summarizes and partly explains his current research, which from 2018 until today has produced more than 40 paintings and digital works. The exhibition " círculo en los círculos" is a path that takes viewers into the creative world of the artist, showing 360 degrees of his research as well as his pictorial practice. In addition to the acrylic canvases, there are displayed, installations that show the meticulous study of the exercise of painting, fundamental within the work of the artist. The exhibition also includes the tools that Alan Lacke personally realizes to create his works, as well as his latest works strongly connected with the digital and virtual world, which lead him to explore the magic of illusion.
The fundamental aspect of Alan Lacke research is the relationship between human and nature. The artist analyses the macro-world, understood as the space that surrounds us and that we can perceive. In the same way he does with the micro-world, that is what is around us but that we are not able to observe, such as the molecules that make up the objects. The result is the elementary figure of the circle, recurrent in all his works, sometimes reproduced with extreme precision, other times instead free and spontaneous, at the mercy of the fluidity of the acrylic used by the artist. The circle unites both worlds mentioned above and can bring the human being back to a primordial condition, automatically back to the concept of birth and origin. The spectators can feel the equality and at same time impotence, in front of the objective finding that everything around us is reduced to being a "circle within infinite circles". Just like the atom, the smallest of the particles that constitute reality, it is inside a larger circle, the one traced by the sphericity of the Earth, the supreme house of the human being. The art of Alan Lacke "suppress barriers, differences, limits and creates a universal language that leads the viewer to a silent contemplation, which conveys an almost mystical and globalized feeling of seeing the world."
Technically and visually, the overall aspect of globalization is accentuated by the contrast between the works that reproduce the artist’s circles in a silkscreen and those that prefer the singularity of the circle. Collectivity and individuality are placed in close confrontation, that being undo and emphasized at the same time.
The chromatic aspect is used to emphasize the concept of bivalence between diversity and equality, between individual and collectivity. There are endless possibilities of interpretation that each of us can grasp, letting ourselves be carried away by the emotionality of colors, shapes and compositions. Despite the free will in the aesthetic judgment and philosophical thought of the work, the artist leaves a suggestion in the use of color, which leads the human eye towards specific directions.
