YHIMURA where our universe comes from
There are so many interesting things that we want to tell you, but we realized that we couldn't start without explaining what YHIMURA means.
We have spent many days thinking about what we wanted to talk about in this first post, as there are so many interesting things that we want to tell you, but we realized that we couldn't start without explaining what YHIMURA means.
Our wish, from the beginning, was that the name of our brand could transmit the essence and values of the company. On the other hand, the core of our universe was always one, to design garments that would illuminate and embellish every woman's body, that would show us to the world as we are, maybe imperfect, but always strong, brave and powerful... just like a GODDESS.
After much research and searching, we found the name that best defined us. A word that gave sense to our project, and to which we felt strongly linked due to its meaning; YHI: Goddess of light and creation, and a solar deity, according to Australian Aboriginal mythology.
We were very happy as we already had a big part of our name as a brand, but we needed to differentiate ourselves and be unique, to tell something more. The word "dress" was always hanging over our heads. But, how could we link the word "dress" to the word we had already fallen in love with; YHI? Difficult task, but not impossible... As a team we love diversity, in every sense of the word, as it ensures that things are in balanced. And to showcase that value of our brand, we decided to translate the word "dress" into another language: Yoruba.
"Yoruba is a West African dialect continuum. It is part of the Benué-Congo languages. It is spoken in Nigeria, where it is one of the official languages, as well as in Benin and Togo. The native name is èdè Yorùbá and it counts 22 million speakers in West Africa. The language originated among the Yoruba peoples."
The translation of "dress" into yoruba´s language is "IMURA", a word with a sound that captivated us as soon as we heard it, and perfect since it meant dress, the main focus of our collections. When we put the two words together, YHI and IMURA, we knew we had found our identity, the written expression of our dreams, values and goals: YHIMURA.
We sincerely hope that you enjoy our collections and that you always feel powerful, because we are!
