Russia considers building oil refinery in Cuba
Moscow shipped five crude oil cargoes in the last three months
Russia is considering building an oil refinery in Cuba with the participation of its state-owned oil companies, a proposal that arises within the framework of the official visit of a Russian parliamentary delegation to Havana headed by Vyacheslav Volodin, president of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of that country.
According to Russian media reports, Russian legislator Alexander Babakov told the TASS agency that “it is wiser to produce oil products here instead of importing them”.
According to the Russian media Pronedra, Moscow authorities are also studying the possibility of deepening the processing of oil products.
Cuba is going through a delicate electro-energy situation, with blackouts exceeding 12 hours. Last March, the Cuban regime informed that oil shipments from Russia had resumed, after a year of stoppage. In three months Putin sent five shipments to the island.
Last Saturday, Cuban dictator Miguel Diaz-Canel met with Vyacheslav Volodin in Havana, in a reaffirmation of the ties between the two countries.
Volodin reiterated Russia's commitment to maintain the strategic partnership with Cuba and expressed his support for the further development of bilateral trade relations.
For his part, Diaz-Canel described the visit as of “great significance” and highlighted the “excellent” state of political, economic and trade relations between Cuba and Russia.
