“Venezuelan military is under the control of the Cuban G2": Rosa María Payá

Cuban exile leaders expressed their rejection to the proclamation of Nicolás Maduro as the winner of Sunday's elections in Venezuela and expressed their support to opponents Edmundo González and María Corina Machado.

The secretary general of the Assembly of the Cuban Resistance (ARC), Orlando Gutiérrez-Boronat, declared to ADN Cuba that “the declared results are a blatant manipulation and a continuation of the regime's contempt for democratic principles and the will of the Venezuelan people”.

The president of the National Electoral Council, Elvis Amoroso, stated with the first bulletin that with 80% of the votes counted, Maduro obtained more than 51% of the votes, surpassing the candidate of the United Democratic Platform (PUD), Edmundo González Urrutia, who obtained 44%,

The international community also rejected these results and supports the Venezuelan opposition.

The leader of the Cuba Decide platform, Rosa María Payá, told ADNCuba magazine that “Venezuela has a new elected president, Edmundo González. This great electoral victory is a fundamental step to get out of the dictatorship and it has been achieved”.

“Maduro did what we all expected him to do, supported by the regime in Havana. It is up to the international community to recognize Gonzalez and send a clear message to the Venezuelan military, who are under the control of the Cuban G2 so that they have to respect the will of the citizens. Edmundo, María Corina and the immense majority of the Venezuelan people will fight until the end, which is freedom,” Payá added on Monday.

A communiqué sent by the Hemispheric Front for Freedom (FHL) states that it rejects the results issued by the pro-government CNE.

“The circumstances surrounding these elections, including the lack of transparency, the suppression of opposition voices and the presence of widespread voter intimidation, generate serious doubts about the legitimacy of the reported result. It is clear that the necessary conditions for a free and fair election were not met, which further erodes the confidence of the Venezuelan people in their government,” they said.

Yaxys Cires, deputy vice-president of the Christian Democratic Organization of America stated that “the popular will expressed through the vote is that Edmundo Gonzalez be the president. We have been in contact with various Venezuelan and international political actors and there is consensus that the results given yesterday by the CNE do not respect the will of the people. In fact, we are seeing the pronouncements that are occurring on the part of states and international institutions.”
